Itinerary

DAY 1 - Arrival in La Paz

Welcome to Bolivia!

When your flight arrives in La Paz, a Nomad Patagonia host will welcome you personally and escort you to the hotel. Instead of navigating a new city after a long flight, let us take care of the transportation logistics. We will drop you off at your hotel so you can refresh and enjoy a peaceful evening before the real excursion starts. Relax with a good night’s rest before your tour of La Paz in the morning.

DAY 2 - La Paz

Tour of La Paz

This morning, an expert guide will lead you through the streets of La Paz for an exclusive city tour. Learn about noteworthy historical landmarks like those in the central Plaza Murillo, shop in colorful and mystical markets like the famous Witches’ Market, and explore some of the city’s captivating museums.

In the afternoon, leave the urban environs behind for a trip out to the Valley of the Moon – with ragged peaks and lunar landforms caused by centuries of erosion.

DAY 3 - Tiahuanaco

Visit to the Cradle of American Civilization

Embark on an excursion to Tiahuanaco, the ancient capital of a surprisingly advanced yet little-known civilization that thrived in the region around A.D. 700. Stand in awe of the archeological sites, including the great pyramid, the Sun Gate, and several imposing monoliths. Examine the mysteries of this sophisticated pre-Inca people to see if you can learn anything new about the community. In the evening, return to La Paz for a leisurely evening.

DAY 4 - La Paz to Potosí

Travel from La Paz to Potosi

This morning, we’ll help you get to the airport for a short flight to Potosí, a high-altitude city that once served as an extraordinarily wealthy silver-mining center. Though the lucrative silver source has declined, this UNESCO-listed city still retains its colonial charms. Grand churches, elegant architecture, and the lavish royal mint await your arrival.

DAY 5 - Potosí

Tour of Potosí and its Silver Mines

After breakfast, begin your journey across Potosí and the surrounding region. Start by traveling to the mineral-rich mountain of Cerro Rico. According to legends, this peak produced enough silver to build a solid silver bridge from Potosí all the way to Madrid.

Venture to the heart of the mountain to see the silver mines that helped finance Spain’s South American Empire. Learn about the complex history of silver production in Bolivia, and listen to how these tunnels still contribute to the city’s economy.

Back in town, take a walk through the Casa de la Moneda (Royal Mint). Examine the wooden machinery that was used to make the silver currencies for Spain during colonial days. Then, visit the Santa Teresa Museum and a few extra highlights on a private guided tour to end the afternoon.

DAY 6 - Potosí to Sucre

Travel from Potosí to Sucre

Depart from Potosí as you drive through Bolivia to reach the constitutional capital of Sucre. Enjoy beautiful mountain scenery along the peaceful drive through the countryside. Once you arrive in Sucre, we will drop you off at the hotel and help you get settled in so you can relax for the rest of the day.

DAY 7 - Sucre

City Tour of Sucre and Visit a Local Community

After breakfast, a local guide will pick you up for a private city tour. Browse the exhibitions at the Casa de la Libertad museum, stop by the San Felipe convent, and delight in the spectacular views from the Mirador de la Recoleta lookout point. Stroll through the city streets admiring the colonial architecture, grand churches, and manicured lawns of the Parque Bolívar.

When the city has been thoroughly explored, you’ll head to the Jatun Yampara Community to learn about one of the most ancient cultures on the continent. While here, you’ll also get to see the detailed displays in the Museum of Native Clothing and discover the techniques used to create ceramics and textiles. Later, you’ll be dropped off back at your luxury hotel in Sucre.

DAY 8 - Sucre to Santa Cruz

Flight to Santa Cruz

Fly to the jungle town of Santa Cruz de la Sierra this morning. We will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel of choice, where you can spend the evening relaxing.

Though Santa Cruz is one of Bolivia’s largest cities, it feels more like a small town. With narrow streets, old-fashioned buildings, and colonial plazas bustling with locals, there is an intimate ambiance that will welcome you warmly. If you’re feeling up to it, roam around the city, check out the museums and galleries, and indulge in a luxury dinner at one of the local restaurants. Or, if you’re looking for a more laid-back day, you could simply relax under the tropical sun lounging by the hotel pool.

DAY 9 - San Javier and Concepción

Explore the Jesuit Missions of Chiquitos

Travel back in time on a guided bus tour to the six Jesuit Missions of Chiquitos, which were established in the 16th century to evangelize the locals. On the drive there, you’ll stop to stretch your legs at several serene, leafy parks and flower-filled gardens.

Your first stop is the Mission of San Javier, the oldest of the six sites. Erected in the mid-18th century, this mission was restored and brought back to its former glory in the latter half of the 20th century.

Explore the site and enjoy lunch, before continuing on to the larger Mission of Concepción for a relaxing evening.

DAY 10 - Concepción to Santa Cruz

Explore the Jesuit Missions Chiquitos

After breakfast you’ll head to the Mission of Concepción to see the jaw-dropping cathedral as well as a lovely town full of shops vending local wares. In the afternoon, get back on the road for a guided bus tour. Stop in San Javier to sample locally produced coffee, before ending the day’s adventure at your relaxing hotel in Santa Cruz.

DAY 11 - Santa Cruz to Cochabamba

Explore the city of Cochabamba

Today’s adventure on your luxury trip to Bolivia begins with a drive west as you ascend to the city of Cochabamba, which sits just above 8,200 feet. Cochabamba is known as “the City of Eternal Spring”, because of its pleasant year-round temperatures, which allow for al fresco dining, outdoor strolls, and a vacation that resembles relaxing Mediterranean summers.

Upon arrival, we’ll help you get settled into your luxury boutique hotel

DAY 12 - Cochabamba

Cochabamba, Cristo de la Concordia

This morning, discover the charms of Cochabamba during a guided city tour highlighting the most important sites. Saunter down the trendy El Prado Boulevard to the main square where you can stand in admiration of the impressive cathedral. Study the exhibits at the University of San Simon’s Archaeological Museum and the Alcides D’Orbigny Natural History Museum. Then, see the more vibrant side of the city as your guide brings you to the sprawling La Cancha market, which is so big it even has its own postcode.

End the tour with a cable car ride or the steep hike up 2,000 steps to reach the Cristo de la Concordia, one of the tallest statues of Christ in the world. This immense monument was completed in 1994 and is 14 feet taller than Rio de Janeiro’s famous Christ the Redeemer. Cochabamba’s Christ also offers far-reaching views across the city and the distant Bolivian Andes.
