Itinerary

DAY 1 - Arrival in Chile

Welcome to Chile!

When your flight arrives in Santiago, a Nomad Patagonia host will welcome you personally and escort you to the hotel. Instead of navigating a new city after a long flight, let us take care of the transportation logistics. Start your trip with some relaxed exploration of the city as you encounter the vivid culture of Chile’s capital.

We will drop you off at your hotel so you can refresh and enjoy a peaceful evening before your adventurous journey begins. Relax with a good night’s rest.

DAY 2 - Puerto Varas

Osorno Volcano and Petrohúe Falls

After breakfast, your adventure starts as we drive to Ensenada for a journey to the enchanting Laguna Verde at the foot of Osorno Volcano. Then, it’s time to head to the slopes of the towering Osorno.

As you enter the Vicente Rosales National Park (the oldest national park in Chile), you’ll get a chance to hike the magical terrain and look out over Todos Los Santos Lake, whose crystalline waters shimmer in the sun. The journey will be complete with a moment spent at Petrohúe Falls, a must-see in Chile’s Lake District.

DAY 3 - Santiago to Torres del Paine

Free day in Puerto Varas

Enjoy a day at leisure to explore some of the many activities that Puerto Varas has to offer. Travelers who love outdoor adventures should definitely enjoy the Paso el Solitario hike, which starts at the base of Osorno Volcano.

With a local guide leading the way, this moderate hike will last about three hours and be full of unparalleled views. Plus, you’ll get an up-close look at the native flora, like the Ulmo and Cohiue trees covering the earth.

DAY 4 - Torres del Paine

Flight to Punta Arenas

Today, you’ll fly to Torres del Paine National Park, one of the most famous natural preserves in the world. We’ll pick you up from your hotel and drive you to the airport for the short flight to Punta Arenas. Once you land, we’ll escort you directly to the Torres del Paine National Park.

This protected area, declared a Natural Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, is visited by thousands of travelers each year, and the best way to explore it is by foot. Owls soar overhead next to great condors as deer and guanacos explore impressive valleys surrounding massive granite mountains. Here, you will get a chance to experience some of Chile’s most incredible landscapes.

DAY 5 - Torres del Paine

Solo Hike to Base de las Torres

During your first day in Patagonia, we recommend travelers embark on a solo hike to Base de las Torres del Paine. This is the most famous hike in the park, looping around the Paine Horns on an 8-10 hour excursion, round-trip.

You’ll cross Ascensio Valley, taking its winding path and gazing over Ascensio River until getting to the first stop, Refugio El Chileno. You can also rent some horses to reach Refugio El Chileno and save some energy for the hike to the base de Las Torres.

DAY 6 - Torres del Paine

Pehoé Lake / Grey Glacier

We’ll pick you up from your hotel and take you to Pudeto, where you’ll cross Pehoé Lake in a medium-sized boat and reach Paine Refuge, the starting point of the trek. The journey will bring you to the viewpoint of the huge Grey Glacier that emerges from the Southern Ice Field. This challenging adventure is worth every effort for the unbelievable views.

DAY 7 - Stop in Santiago

Flight to Santiago

Today, a shuttle will pick you up from your hotel and take you to Punta Arenas airport, where you’ll catch your flight to Santiago for a brief one-night pit stop.

Tomorrow you’ll fly north to begin your journey to San Pedro de Atacama, the gateway to the Atacama Desert, Earth’s driest terrain with otherworldly scenery.

DAY 8 - North to Atacama

Flight Santiago to Calama / Transfer to Atacama

After breakfast, you’ll take a short flight to Calama before being driven to your accommodation in San Pedro de Atacama.

During the afternoon, enjoy your first encounter with Atacama as you visit the Cejar and Tebenquiche Lagoons, inside the great Atacama Salt Flats. Here, you’ll be able to lounge in the clear turquoise waters with an amazing volcano backdrop.

Then, step into the heart of the salt flats with a trip to the “Ojo del Salar” (Salt Flats’ Eyes), two round freshwater wellsprings in the middle of the desert.

DAY 9 - San Pedro de Atacama

Atacama Exploration

Your day begins with a 40-mile journey to the north to visit the Atacama Salt Flats. Make a stop at the Chaxa Lagoon and see if you can spot a few of the flamingos that live inside the natural reserve.

As you come upon the Miscanti and Miñiques, better known as the Highland Lakes, grab a few photos to remember the majestic views here. These unique bodies of water are two neighboring lagoons formed by the eruption of the Meñique Volcano, a natural scar that has turned into a beautiful landmark.

Continue your journey by visiting the village of Socaire, where you can taste the best Atacamenian cuisine, and explore the town of Toconao, an oasis in the middle of the Atacama Desert.

DAY 10 - San Pedro de Atacama

Atacama Exploration

Today starts bright and early at around 4 AM when we’ll pick you up to head 60 miles away into the Andes for a day trip to the geothermal field of Geysers del Tatio. Here, 40 geysers and 70 hot springs await you, which you can indulge in after enjoying some delicious breakfast in a magnificent setting.

In the afternoon, your next adventure in the Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley) begins. This location is what gives Atacama its reputation as a lunar paradise. Afterward, take the winding and hidden path into the Salt Caves where you can discover the peculiar salt gemstones that have formed over centuries from the lack of humidity and the altitude of this zone.

DAY 11 - Return to Santiago

Flight to Santiago

Today we’ll help you catch your flight to Santiago, the bustling capital of Chile.

Between the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, this modern city offers all kinds of attractions for curious travelers. Santiago is known for the delicious Cabernet Sauvignon and the “Sanhattan” district, which is a stylish fusion between Manhattan and Santiago, a heaven on earth for devoted shoppers looking for the perfect souvenir.

DAY 12 - Valparaiso

Valparaiso / Viña del Mar

Discover the alluring town of Valparaíso as you stroll through bohemian neighborhoods decorating Chile’s Pacific coast. This picturesque city was declared World Heritage by UNESCO thanks to its quirky features and historical landmarks.

After wandering the Plaza Victoria, covered in Peruvian sculptures, we’ll explore downtown and Plaza Sotomayor before reaching the Prat port. Relax with the first gondola ride of the day as you head to the beautiful Palacio Baburizza, constructed in 1916. Pass by the colorful houses that stare down from above the city and the bay with a peaceful afternoon in this unique coastal destination.

DAY 13 - Santiago

Free Day in the Capital

You don’t have any scheduled activities for today… but, we recommend that you keep on exploring the wonders of Santiago, a city full of history and architectural treasures. If you want to add an optional day tour, we suggest that you tour the Concha y Toro Winery, one of the most famous wine producers in the area.
